Make a plan

Work out a scheme

Mood boards are still a good way to pull together the elements of your design. Use fabrics, wallpapers, beads, candles and any other inspirational items to create your design. You will then be able to look for a bedstead or bed base that will work with your ideas. For example, an wrought-iron bedstead could work well in a Gothic room whilst a four-poster is ideal for a shimmering romantic area.

Try the beds

Don't buy before you've tried. It's important that your bed is comfortable as well as stylish. If you share your bed, you should go shopping with your partner, so that you can both lie on the beds to make sure that you choose one which is big enough and supportive enough for both of you. Once you've shortlisted the beds you like the most, remember to take details of their measurements so that you can be sure that they can be delivered to your bedroom easily and that you can fit them in.

Think about storage

If you have limited space in your bedroom, or you're trying to reduce clutter, look at beds that come with built-in storage. Under-bed drawers are the perfect way to save space, but provide you with a surprising amount of storage space, meaning that you can get rid of some of the other storage solutions in your room and give yourself more space.
