Beds and accessories
A simple duvet isn't enough any more - the best beds are properly accessorised.
Buying beds is pretty straightforward - take your measurements,
think about what you want, shop for beds online or at a furniture store
and then wait for delivery. In order to turn your new bed into a real
centrepiece, however, you need to think about how you can accessorise
it. This is your chance to add a personal touch to your bed - turning
it from one of many beds in the showroom into a bed that's all yours.
Canopies
Particularly designed for children's beds, but available for other
beds too, you can add a simple canopy to your bed to transform it into
a fairytale sleeping place. Most of these canopies are easy to install
- a metal ring is hung from the ceiling, to provide the frame for
the canopy and then the material is draped across the frame so that it
hangs over the bed. With fabrics available in different designs, or with
the scope to buy your own fabric to match your room, these canopies are
increasingly popular, and very affordable.
Throws
No magazine or TV makeover programme is complete without a throw, as far
as beds are concerned. A throw is effectively a blanket, but can be of
varying weight and size and made with a whole range of fabrics. From a
traditional American patchwork cover to a deep coloured cashmere blanket,
these throws provide both a decorative and practical use. Usually found
draped neatly across the bottom third of the bed, they provide an accent
to the colours of the general bedding, but can be used to provide extra
warmth during the night.
Cushions and Pillows
Whilst you may not want to sleep with six cushions, they are often used
to make beds look warm and welcoming. Using matching or co-ordinating
fabrics, and in a range of shapes and sizes, cushions, pillows and bolsters
are becoming increasingly popular when it comes to dressing beds. They
provide a finishing touch that makes the bed feel like part of the overall
room design rather than just a piece of furniture stuck in the middle
of the room.
