Beds that are hidden away
Most of us aren't lucky enough to have acres of space for spare beds.
Making space for visitors is a challenge for most people. An average family
occupying a typical 3 bedroom house won't have spare beds at their
fingertips. In fact, when space is at a premium, it can be difficult to
see how a spare bed can be fitted in.
Beds that can be hidden away are ideal for these situations. Taking up
no or very limited space during most of the year, they can be brought
out when they're needed, giving you the spare beds you need without
wasting important space in your home.
How can beds be hidden away?
Aware of the tight space that many of us occupy, furniture manufacturers
are continually coming up with new designs or variations of old designs
that help us to gain the flexibility we need. Whether they're stored
underneath other beds, folded up to look like sofas, or can be tidied
away into a box on the wall, there's more choice than ever before.
Single guest beds?
One of the most versatile beds on the market, the single guest bed allows
you to create flexible sleeping arrangements. The single bed takes up
limited space in your room and has an additional single bed base and mattress
stored underneath. For most of the time - in a child's room,
for example - the bed is just a straightforward single bed. When
you have guests, however, you can pull out the additional bed and open
out the legs to bring it up to the same height as the original single.
You can then either create twin beds or push both beds together to create
a generous, comfortable double bed. In this way, the beds can sleep two
children, two adults, or an adult and a child in whatever arrangement
is best. When your guests leave, the bed simply folds away under the single
bed and you're back to normal.
If even single guest beds take up too much space for you, try a wall
bed or a child's highsleeper with an integrated futon-type sofa
underneath. Or consider a fold-down bed that you can keep in the loft
or covered up in the garage.
