De-clutter for a good night’s sleep

As the saying goes, a tidy home means a tidy mind, and a tidy mind means a good night’s sleep!

That might not be quite how it goes, but it’s certainly true – have you ever struggled to get to sleep in a room that’s got papers all over the floor or a suitcase full of dirty laundry in the corner?

For many people, just knowing the room is messy can have a negative impact on how quickly they fall asleep and how well they sleep – and it makes sense. It’s just another thing to play on your mind and distract you from the important task at hand – catching some Z’s.

If you’re able to keep your bedroom solely for sleeping then it’s often considered good ‘sleep hygiene’ to do so, and it’s much easier to keep clean if all that’s in there is a bed.

It isn’t always possible, especially for those who live in houseshares or studio flats, but when possible try to keep your clothes, desk and other possessions in another room. If you aren’t storing anything in your room, it’s tough for it to get messy.

Electricals such as phones, laptops and tablets in the bedroom are a big no-no anyway, but cables can add to the cluttered feel of a room and have an adverse affect on your sleep, so try to keep chargers in another room unless absolutely necessary.

Making your bed is another quick and easy way to make your room instantly feel much tidier. Make it in the morning after getting out of bed and you’ll quickly get into the habit – it’s a much nicer feeling getting into a made bed at night as well!
