Health beds are not only for comfort, but they also serve a therapeutic role. The back is a very sensitive part of the body; for someone who has a recurring back problem or suffers from chronic back pain, a health bed can be part of the solution. In some cases it is THE only solution.
Health beds must have several comfort areas especially for people who need to change their sleeping position frequently during the night. This frequent changing of position could ease the pain. This is why most health beds are manufactured to take pressure points into consideration. The shape of the foam mattress must adapt to the shape of the sleeper’s body and must have some elevated spots at strategic points of the mattress so that pressure is taken off the legs and shoulders.
Most health beds that are designed for people with problematic backs have a slight raised curve in the feet section, and may be slightly elevated at shoulder level. The middle section is also firmer to provide support for the back. The lumbar requires 100% support, so great care is taken to design comfort zones throughout the bed.
