As you are probably aware, reading in bed can help you get to sleep. There’s something deeply soothing about enjoying a good book while laying atop a comfortable mattress. What’s more, the way your brain renders mental images based on the words on a page is intrinsically dreamlike. Ergo, reading allows you to slip seamlessly and naturally into sleep. But what should you read in bed to help you drift off? Obviously, there’s no right or wrong answer. However, in today’s blog we’ll consider some of the most popular options and discuss their individual merits.

1. Classic literature

Is there a classic, literary book that you’ve always wanted to read? Perhaps you haven’t been able to find the time or your simply haven’t gotten round to it. Why not use the time before you go to sleep to read it? Classic literature usually deals with important social and cultural concepts, so reading it in bed can broaden your mind and enrich your soul. If you want to expand your mental horizons, it’s worth reading classic literature before you go to sleep.

2. Factual books

Do you yearn to increase your breadth of knowledge? Are you fascinated with a particular subject? If the answer to either of these questions is ‘yes’, you should consider reading a factual book in bed. If you read information directly before you doze off for the night, your brain will be able to process it while you’re asleep, thereby increasing your chances of retaining it.

3. Genre fiction

Whether you’re a fan of police procedurals or you pride yourself on an encyclopedic knowledge of fantasy and sci-fi, the best place to read your favourite genre is in bed! Reading genre fiction is a great way to escape the troubles and stresses of day-to-day life. Consequently, if you enjoy escapism, it can help you get a good night’s sleep.

Here at Mattress Nextday, we believe that reading in bed is a great way to broaden your mind and de-stress. However, even the best book won’t help you get a good night’s sleep if you don’t have a comfortable mattress. Check out our range of amazing mattresses today.
