If you're thinking about shopping for memory foam
mattresses to increase your nighttime comfort level, reduce
back pain, and improve the overall quality of your sleep,
it's crucial to keep in mind that not all memory
foam mattresses are created equal!
Ever since memory foam mattresses joined the consumer
market in the 1990s and started to gain in popularity,
more and more manufacturers and companies have been busy
selling their versions of memory foam mattresses and topper
pads. Memory foam mattresses and their related products
vary significantly in quality, density, temperature sensitivity,
comfort, firmness, and durability. Because there is definitely
more than one type of product for you to choose from,
how will you know what to buy?
The first thing to keep in mind when choosing a memory
foam mattress, topper pad, or pillow is the price. Although
more affordable memory foam mattresses have become available,
this development has also translated into more poor-quality
mattresses becoming available. While you can certainly
find good deals on quality memory foam mattresses, those
that are significantly cheaper than other types/brands
tend to be poor quality, layered with other cheap and
low-quality materials and "fillers". Not only
will they provide less comfort and support, but they won't
last very long, either.
When comparing memory foam mattresses, look for something
comfortable, supportive, strong, and long-lasting. As
far as depth of foam is concerned, try to choose a mattress
with around three inches of foam density. Less than three
and you won't feel supported or very comfortable,
but too much more than three inches, and you'll
feel like you're "sinking" too deep
into the mattress.
There is some controversy over whether or not customers
should choose a low, high, or medium density in memory
foam mattresses. There are different advantages to each,
and what you decide is really up to your personal preferences.
Low-density mattresses can be softer and more comfortable
but may lack in durability; high-density mattresses can
be "too firm" but more durable; and those
of medium density are often, as you would suspect, right
in the middle.
Finally, check the source or name brand. Some brands you
can trust; others you can't, at least not without
some investigation. Do your research to determine the
quality of the memory foam mattresses you are considering.
