Want to get the best night's sleep ever? From beds to baths, here are some great tips. Most of us don't have the sleep routine we should. Whether we work late into the night, get our sleep disturbed by our children, go to sleep with the television on or sleep in a bed that's too old, we don't do as much as we could to ensure that our sleep is of the highest quality. ? Routine - experts agree that a good sleep routine is essential. Going to bed at the same time each night and waking up at around the same time in the morning, used together with other strategies, can help to establish a consistency that leads to good sleep. ? Dark room - whilst some people say they can sleep no matter how light the room is, you get a better quality of sleep if your room is dark. You can achieve this easily - get blackout blinds to sit behind your curtains, or get your existing curtains lined so that they let less light through. Don't leave lights on in your room and close the door if possible. Remove anything else that might be an intrusive light source, such as glow-in-the-dark items or illuminated clocks. ? Electrical items - there's a theory that having any electrical items in your bedroom has a negative affect on the quality of your sleep. Unless you have nowhere else to put them, consider moving televisions, radios and computers out of your room. ? Eating and drinking - whilst you could have a light snack before you go to bed, avoid drinking alcohol and caffeine or eating spicy or heavy meals before you sleep. Your body will still be digesting your food and this could cause discomfort during the night. ? Relax - there's a reason we bathe kids before bedtime - it helps to relax them. A warm milky drink has the same effect, as will some light reading or some relaxing exercises. If you go to bed in a relaxed state, you are far more likely to sleep well.
