Let's face it, sometimes no matter how much sleep we get we still wake up feeling tired. This is because not all sleep is good sleep and there are ways to get better, more revitalising sleep. Here's our top tips on How To Wake Up Feeling Revitalised.
A lot of the time, poor sleep can be linked to your sleep environment. Sleeping on a mattress that's seen better days can cause disturbed sleep. This is because worn out mattresses do not support the spine and joints correctly which causes you to toss and turn as you sleep. While you may not fully wake up or remember moving, fidgeting whilst asleep does disrupt the REM cycle. It's advised to replace your mattress up to every 8 years. Or when your mattress starts to see signs of wear and tear.
Set Aside Enough Time To Sleep
Generally, when we set our bedtimes we don't include the amount of time it takes to fall asleep. For most people, that's anywhere between 20 - 40 minutes. If you're waking up feeling tired, try going to bed an hour earlier to account for the time it takes to fall asleep.
Follow A Bedtime Routine
Setting a bedtime routine will help you unwind and feel ready to sleep. A big reason for disturbed sleep can be stress. Checking your work emails before bed might seem productive but it might actually disrupt your sleep that night. Try and include things that relax you into your bedtime routine. This could be a bath, 30 minutes of reading or doing the washing up. Having a routine will make you fall asleep faster and allow you to fully unwind for the night - making for better sleep.
If you find yourself feeling groggy every morning, try drinking a glass of water as soon as you wake up. We lose a lot of water while we sleep and it's important to replace it. Dehydration can cause brain fog, headaches and a general feeling of tiredness.
Start The Day Right
If you feel tired, moving around in the morning is probably the last thing you want to do. But getting up and completing a small task can be a great way to wake the mind and body up for the day. It doesn't have to be big, something as simple as taking the bins out or doing some stretches can increase productivity for the day. Start as you mean to go on!
