UK mattresses vs US sizes

When it comes to buying a US mattress, it’s good to have a frame of reference so that you know whether your bed is compatible with your new purchase. Here’s a quick guide to how UK mattresses measure up against their American cousins. In the UK, we start things out with the Single mattress. This is around three inches slimmer than its nearest US counterpart, the Twin. The next size up in the UK is the Double, which has the same dimensions as a US Full. As we go further up the ladder, we reach the UK King, which is only around two inches shorter than its American equivalent, the US Queen. Last on the UK list is the Super-king, which is around four inches shorter than the US California King. What sizes do US mattresses come in?

The sizes US mattresses come in have very little in common with their UK counterparts. US mattresses start out at Twin-size, which is around three inches wider than a UK single. After that, they increase in width and length through Twin XL and Small Double, before arriving at Full, which is the equivalent of a UK Double. From there, we move onto Queen, which is slightly larger than a UK King-size mattress, before going on to US King-size and, finally, the California King which is typically around 12 inches longer than UK Super-king.
