Mattress Delivery

Once you've bought your new mattress, you'll need to organise delivery.

It can take a while to find the mattress that's right for you, but once you have, you'll want to get it into your bedroom as soon as possible. You should, of course, have bought your mattress along with a new bed, because putting a new mattress on an old bed base could cause more problems than it solves. If that's the case, you should try and arrange the delivery of your bed and mattress together.

When you buy your mattress, make sure that you find out exactly what the delivery conditions are. You will need to consider:

Delivery dates - if your retailer allows you to choose a delivery day, make sure you choose a day when you or someone else is there to accept the delivery. If you discover that you won't be able to be at home for the arranged day, make sure you tell the retailer as much in advance as you can. They may be able to put the mattress or bed in storage for you for a short period, until you're able to arrange a new date. If you don't want to take a day off work to wait for your delivery, see if you retailer can guarantee an early delivery time.

Delivery to your room - whilst some retailers will deliver your bed or mattress all the way into your bedroom, some carriers are not able to deliver above ground level. It's important to know what type of delivery you will be getting - particularly if you live in an apartment building, as you will need to arrange to have help available when the mattress is delivered in order to get it to your flat. Don't try to move a mattress or bed by yourself as both are heavy and unwieldy and you could injure yourself.

Mattress care - once your mattress is in the right place, you will need to remove any protective wrappings so that the mattress can air. Most mattresses come wrapped in polythene, which doesn't allow the mattress to breathe and could encourage moisture and mould if left for too long. Take off all coverings and don't make the bed for at least an hour so that your mattress has had time to rest.

If you have any queries about delivery, just check with your retailer when you place your order. That way, you'll be able to make the necessary preparations, even if the delivery date is as soon as the next day.
