We have receieved your request
When you choose a new mattress, you want to be sure it's going to help you sleep.
Are you changing your mattress because you're no longer getting a good night's sleep on your current one? An old or damaged mattress can result in nights of disturbed sleep, or waking in the morning with aches and pains. Don't put off buying a new mattress once you see the signs - as soon as you're not benefiting from the support it gives, it's time to get a new one.
What sort of mattress do I need?
Despite studies comparing people's feelings on different types of mattresses, you can't really rely on reviews or comparisons that have been carried out by someone else. Why? Because choosing a mattress is such a personal thing. What may have felt comfortable to the testers may feel completely wrong to you - and just because a mattress is expensive, or made by a leading brand, it doesn't necessarily follow that it will give you the support and comfort you need. You can only find out which mattress works best for you if you try some out.
How do you sleep?
There's no point testing a mattress by feeling it with your hands, or sitting on the edge. That's a bit like saying you chose your new car after kicking one of the tyres. You need to test your mattress properly, and that means lying down on it. Understandably, people may be a little embarrassed about doing this in a showroom, but sleep experts, mattress manufacturers and retailers all agree that it's the best way to choose a mattress. You need to do the following:
• Take off your shoes and coat - you need to replicate your sleeping process as much as possible
• Lie down on the bed in the position you would normally go to sleep in
• Take at least 5-10 minutes on each mattress.
• Test mattresses with your partner if you share your bed
You'll be surprised at how easy it is to discover which mattress suits you once you've spent some time testing them out. The right mattress for you is one that feels comfortable, that supports you in the right places, and where you don't feel that you have to keep changing position in order to get to sleep. Without this sort of testing, you could end up spending money on a mattress that doesn't contribute anything to a good night's sleep.
