Mattresses For Sleep Disorders

If you have a sleep disorder, you may find that it helps to change your mattress.

Sleep disorders vary from mild, occasional problems to serious sleep deprivation. For those who suffer from lack of sleep, nights are filled with frustration and days are characterised by lack of attention span, irritability and even depression. Sleep disorders are the subject of much research and if you think you may be suffering from some type of sleep disorder, you should seriously consider consulting your GP for advice.

One in four people in the UK encounters some sort of sleeping problem. These problems can be caused or exacerbated by a number of things:

Stress - the number of people suffering from stress has grown immensely over the past few years and, despite wide-spread recognition of the problem, is likely to grow still further. One of the key symptoms of stress is the inability to sleep well. This is usually because the sleeper is constantly worried about situations at home or at work and unable to switch off, relax and sleep.

Work - those working shift patterns are unlikely to sleep as well as those who work regular office hours. The disruption in sleep caused by changes in shift patterns, or by constant night working can mean that sleep is elusive and possibly not as good quality when it finally arrives. In addition, those people who travel around the country or the world as part of their work may also have sleeping problems. The mattress in the hotel is never as comfortable as the one at home and if you're in several different places during the course of a working week, it can take a tool on the quality of sleep you get.

Physical - poor sleep can also be caused by physical illness. Long-term illnesses can have a damaging effect on sleep and your GP may advise changing to a bed with an adjustable mattress, for example, so that you can find the most comfortable position to sleep in.

If you have had trouble sleeping for some time, but don't know why, consult your doctor. They may prescribe a range of treatments, from medicine to buying a new mattress in order to help you return to nights of good quality sleep.
