Mattress Problems

We can help you diagnose problems with your current mattress.

My mattress sags in the middle

This is probably because the construction of the mattress is getting old. Sprung mattresses often become softer in the middle, particularly if they're constructed with horizontal rows of springs rather than vertical rows. The middle of the mattress is where the weight of your body is concentrated, so this is often the first place that you might notice the signs of wear and tear.

My mattress sags at the sides

Modern mattresses are designed so that the support runs right up to the edges of the mattress, but if you've had your mattress for several years, you may not be benefiting from this type of construction. If you haven't been turning your mattress, or it is slightly bigger than your bed base, it will start to go softer at the edges.

I can feel the springs when I'm lying down

This is a sure sign that your mattress is wearing out. The springs are packed with filling and there is usually at least one extra layer of filling material on top of that - all designed to prevent you from feeling the springs. If the mattress cover is getting threadbare, however, or has been damaged, the filling may settle and the springs push through. You won't be able to sleep comfortably if you can feel the springs, so it may be time for a new mattress.

I can't get comfortable on my mattress

If you have a mattress that supports you properly, you should feel comfortable no matter what sleeping position you're in. If you're tossing and turning at night, trying to find a more comfortable place to sleep, your mattress probably isn't providing the support you need. Think about how long you've had your mattress - it may need to be changed.

I keep rolling into my partner

This could be because your mattress is sagging in the middle, but it could also be caused by a mattress that's too small. A standard UK double mattress doesn't really have enough room for two people to sleep comfortably side by side. Consider changing your bed and mattress for a bigger version.
