Beds - how to design your bedroom
You should think about the design of your bedroom before you look at new beds.
There's no shortage of information about how to design your room, but most of this advice focuses on choosing colours and fabrics, rather than on the whole point for having a bedroom - your bed.
Your bed is one of the most important things to consider when you're re-designing or redecorating your bedroom. It usually takes up the most space in your room and, therefore, is likely to be the focal point. That's why it's important that the style and size of bed is right.
? Plan your space - the most important place to start is with your room size. If you make your plans without looking at how much space you have, or what will fit into it, your whole carefully-built design could come tumbling down. Experts recommend that you use a dedicated computer programme to plan your room or just use some graph paper so that you can draw everything to scale.
? Paper cut-outs - although it may sound a little zany, the paper cut-out is a great way for you to see exactly what will fit in your room. When your room is empty, lay out paper on the floor, that's been cut or joined together to represent your furniture. A life-size floor model will show you exactly how much room you have to manoeuvre - and paper is much easier to move round your room than large pieces of furniture! When it comes to beds, wardrobes or other large items, just mark out the edges of the piece - you'll still get the right idea.
? Tie everything together - when you've decided what furniture you're buying - including your bed - and you've chosen a colour scheme, try and tie everything together. Use an accent colour on your bedding, or choose an upholstered bed base that matches your scheme. Prints and accessories are also a great way to complete your scheme and help you to achieve that designer-look without paying top prices.
