Bought this to replace the exact same model which had been supremely comfortable for over 30 years (it was always protected, kept clean and well cared for) until it began to develop dips. Was a little anxious that the new royal sovereign might take a while to get used to but amazingly it had no perceptible chemical smell and has been perfectly comfortable from the first night. That said, ive knocked off a star each for quality and value owing to the cover, which is far inferior to that on the previous mattress. The older one had a thick, firm, padded cover with strong, woven fabric and sturdy handles for ease of turning. It gave the mattress rigidity and structure and no doubt contributed greatly to its durability. The new royal sovereign is encased in a thin, stretchy material which simply provides a minimal barrier between the inner foam and the world outside. There are no handles and nothing at all to grasp, so getting the heavy, floppy mattress the right way up on the bed was akin to wrestling an uncooperative five ton jellyfish. (nb best not to go out and leave partner in charge of supervising delivery men as none of them noticed that the one-sided mattress was placed on the bed sleep-side-down.) however, based on the longevity of the previous one I am hoping not to have to attempt the feat again in this lifetime, so hopefully all will be well.
