Mattress Constructions: Ultimate Guide
Pocket Spring Mattresses
Pocket spring mattresses contain hundreds and sometimes thousands of springs that are encased in individual soft fabric pockets. These are then covered in luxurious fillings
This type of mattress is ideal because the springs work independently giving the correct support where necessary. Even if two people share the same bed, the pocket spring mattress will support each of them individually, giving them appropriate support.
Another advantage of pocket spring mattresses is that it reduces any roll together. Couples with a weight difference will sleep soundly on these beds as the support each receives is appropriate to each person.

Memory Foam Mattresses
The memory foam mattress has many advantages over other conventional types of mattress, including giving equal support to every part of your body.
Memory foam mattresses have the ability to mould themselves to a person's individual shape and weight giving support to every part of the body equally avoiding pressure points in such areas as hips and shoulders, allowing you to sleep deeper and wake up fully refreshed.

Orthopaedic Mattresses
Orthopaedic mattresses are specialised types of mattresses that are intended to provide better support to the weight-bearing parts of the body, such as the neck, the back, the hips and the lower extremities.
The orthopaedic mattress is much firmer and denser than its conventional counterparts and is generally constructed out of solid blocks of high-density foam. There are still some classic spring coil models being sold today, but the more innovative versions now use memory foam.

Choosing the best firmness for you
There are fewer things in life greater than a good night's sleep. And getting a good night's sleep often comes down to choosing the right mattress. All mattress styles vary in comfort grades, ranging from soft to firm. Deciding which one is best for you depends on your preferred sleeping position, general comfort preferences and even your weight.
Soft mattresses:
Soft mattresses are best for those that sleep on their side. This is because they correctly align your spine by allowing your hips and shoulders to sink in. The hips and shoulders are particularly vulnerable pressure points and a soft mattress provides the much needed spine support. Soft mattresses are also great for children and those weighing under 9 stone.
Medium mattresses:
Medium mattresses cater to a variety of sleepers. If you prefer to sleep on your front, a medium mattress will give you the best support. They offer a lot of spinal support which is why they are preferred by front sleepers. The most difficult position to find adequate spine and neck support. Medium mattresses are also very supportive for back sleepers between 9 and 16 stone.
Firm mattresses:
Firm mattresses are certainly the most supportive of the lot. Ideal for back sleepers, firm mattresses ensure the spine is in its natural alignment. They're also perfect for those that are 16 stone and above. As they will support your weight no matter what sleeping position you prefer to sleep in.
