Dr Roger Henderson qualified as a doctor from St Bartholomew's Hospital, London, in 1985 and as a general practitioner in 1990.
He went on to become the senior partner of a 14,000-patient general practice, where he also worked as a GP trainer. His work involved running a large main surgery and two branch surgeries, including one based on a university campus.
His interest in sleep developed early in his general practice career, when he became aware of how many patients were experiencing issues linked to poor sleep and sleep-related disorders. He also saw that many of these concerns could be improved through practical lifestyle advice, either alongside or instead of medication.
Over the course of his career, Dr Henderson has combined general practice with medical writing, broadcasting and education. He is also a judge for the annual National General Practice Awards and continues to provide accessible health advice through articles, podcasts, television, radio and online media.
